IIIInside

Rooms that open to the light

Oak floors, slatted timber and soft white walls. Tall glass doors slide back so the living room, the pergola and the pool become one long room in summer.

Every bedroom has its own double bed and most have their own bathroom, so a family or two couples can share without sharing too much.

VIPalaiochora

The bride of the Libyan Sea

Aerial view of the Palaiochora peninsula between its sandy and pebble beaches

70 m from the water

Palaiochora sits on a narrow peninsula in the south-west of Chania, with a long sandy beach on one side and a pebble beach on the other. The sun rises over one bay and sets into the other.

It is a real village, not a resort: tavernas on the harbour, a ferry to Gavdos, gorges and empty coves within an hour.

VIIDesigned with care

Built for the sun, open to everyone

The building was planned around the light, the heat and the people who will stay here.

  1. Powered by the sun

Solar water heaters and photovoltaic panels on the roof cover much of the suites’ hot water and electricity.

  2. Bioclimatic design

The volumes, heights and openings were placed to catch the breeze and keep the summer sun out.

  3. Step-free stay

A lift runs from the parking to the East suite, where a ground-floor bedroom and its bathroom are fully accessible. The outdoor area has no steps.

  4. Charge on arrival

Both parking spaces sit under a metal pergola, with a charging point for electric cars.

Every evening the sun goes down into the Libyan Sea. For a moment it rests on the horizon, just above the water, beside two white houses.
